Christian Myths

Christian Myth #1:

Christians are perfect/ they are supposed to be perfect.

Truth:

Christians are people who:

  • realize they are NOT perfect
  • actively work on turning away from their sins
  • accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior
  • do their best to emulate Jesus Christ
  • spread God's Word as stated in the Holy Bible

Christian Myth #2:

If I become a Christian I will be judged by God and other people and will be expected to be perfect.

Truth:

God, your creator, will judge you when your body dies in this world and your spirit can no longer live here.

Other people may judge you whether you are a Christian or not, regardless of what you believe in.

Not even God expects you to be perfect. That is why He sent Jesus Christ to earth to save all of the human race from its sin.

Jesus was sinless but was sacrificed by the human race by being crucified. On the third day following his human death, Jesus rose from the dead, revealed himself as a once-again-alive human being and then went to Heaven to be with God.

Christian Myth #3:

If I choose to be Christian, the first order of business is going to be punishment from Jesus and other Christians.

Truth:

In this world, people hurt other people. Some even hurt others using the name of Jesus as their justification.

I once even heard a "Christian" say "Well, I guess I am just going to have to beat the love of Jesus into him."

This was the "Christian's" response to a Christian having given him a place to live for free for months, free food, free utilities and even a free computer.

When the authentic Christian got tired of casting his gifts before someone who was not even trying to emulate Christ and then gave him 2 weeks notice to move out, the "Christian" then responded with threats of and actual physical violence.

Let me assure you, THAT is not Jesus Christ and that is not Christian or anything to do with Christianity. That is satan using a person to do his dirty work and then trying to fool both people into thinking the wrong-doer was practicing Christianity. Don't be fooled!

Other people may try to punish you because you are a Christian and are not perfect. While they may say they are Christian, they are not being like Jesus and they are persecuting you for your love of Christ. Pray for them!

Attempting to punish you for not being perfect, while not being perfect themselves simply says that they have decided they are "God" instead of acknowleging their own faults and accepting God as God.

All human beings have messed up and continue to make some bad choices. Christian thoughts, words and actions do not beat people up for their imperfections.

Christians work on identifying and eradicating their own sins. Christians encourage others to make Jesus Christ their Lord and Savior. Christians help other Christians and non-Christians when asked for help. Christians pray for their family, friends and even their enemies.

Christians find ways to bring others to Jesus so that Jesus can save them from their sins and guarantee they will go to Heaven for eternity when their earthly body dies.

Christian behavior dictates NOT judging others or using the Bible to beat others down. Christians realize they will end up being judged with the same measuring stick they have used in judging others. Christians drop the measuring stick. They forgive and forget when asked for forgiveness.

When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, His blood covers you so that when God sees you He will not see your sins but instead see the blood of Jesus.

Seeing the blood of His Son, Jesus, God can accept you into Heaven, His Kingdom. God can not have in his presence or ever accept anything this is not 100% perfect.

To God, one lie is the same as 100,000 cold-blooded murders. That does not sound right to many people at first but realize that degree of sin is merely a human invention.

To God, sin is sin. Any sin is the same as all sin. And God simply will not have any part of it or even cast His eyes upon even the smallest amount of it. Period.

People are NOT God! Humans invented the concept of degrees of punishment based upon degrees of crimes. To God, its one way or the other:

Sin. Go To Hell.

- or -

Sin. Accept Jesus. Repent from sin. Go To Heaven.

Often when people realize that is the truth, they freak out because they realize God should send them to hell because of their sins. That is true.

But God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life (go to Heaven). See John 3:16.

That's why we all need Jesus!

Christian Myth #4

If I become a Christian, all of my problems and my sinful desires will just go away.

Truth:

Unfortunately, this is not the way it works. Becoming a Christian is easy, continuing to grow in Christ is a life-long process.

God can and does work miracles in the lives of those who love Him. But God expects repentence from sin. Problems go away at about the same rate as sins are eliminated from one's life.

Sinful desires dissapate at about the same rate as sins are eliminated from life.

There are however some exceptions. God will bless people whose ancestors have led exceptionally God-fearing lives. But God will also curse people whose ancestors have led exceptionally sinful lives.

Overall, by being a Christian, you accept responsibility for improving your walk with Christ and becoming more like Him.

This does not instantly eliminate problems or sinful desires. But becoming and being Christian gets you going in the right direction and keeps you going that way.
